The company, which has outgrown its current location, has looked at sites in southwest Ohio and in Richmond, Ind.
The company was founded in late 2014 and produces ammunition. City officials said most of the ammunition it produces comes from re-manufactured brass units obtained from gun ranges, although they do also produce new ammunition.
Midwest Ammunition employs 40 full-time equivalent workers with a payroll of $1.5 million. City officials said with the company’s main customer doubling locations within the next two years, Midwest Ammunition sees potential to double its production and employment as well.
City officials said the company’s main customer, a public gun range, has 20 locations and is expected to have 50 to 60 by the end of 2020, which will allow Midwest Ammunition to double their production and employment as well.
City officials said the company has found space at 1700 S. University Blvd. and is interested in purchasing the property to relocate their operations from St. Clair Twp. to Middletown. That move would be contingent on incentives granted and compliance in zoning and occupancy.
The building sits on about 1.5 acres and is owned by Alum Creek Industries LLC of Middletown, according to Butler County Auditor’s Office property records website. The property has a valuation of $219,170.
If Midwest Ammunition chooses to locate in Middletown, there will be an increase in income taxes of $26,250 per year based on the current payroll of $1.5 million, according to city officials. About $3,937 of this would be returned to Midwest Ammunition under the terms of the incentive grant for four years for a total of $15,748.
Middletown City Council will hear a first reading of this proposed agreement at its Oct. 1 meeting.
