Christmas With A Cop honors fallen officer

About 70 Middletown area families will have “a better Christmas” after the Middletown Division of Police Department held its annual Mike Davis Christmas With A Cop program this month.

Davis, a longtime police officer and school resource officer, died Nov. 13, 2013. He was 65.

He was a police officer for 44 years, retiring in 2011. Davis served as director of the city’s Safety Town program and a school resource officer, or SRO, for 26 years.

Police Chief Rodney Muterspaw said the event was named in the fallen officer’s honor because he was “so instrumental” in helping families in the community.

Christmas With A Cop was held Dec. 8 at Meijer in Middletown, and included police department employees and troopers from the State Highway Patrol. Those volunteers shopped with area families, Muterspaw said.

Muterspaw said Meijer, which donated $5,000 to the program, was the largest contributor. Local churches, businesses and the Middletown High School Class of 1966 also made donations, Muterspaw said.

“We love doing this for the community,” he said.
