Last section of famed Middletown theater demolished

The highest section of a famed theater in downtown Middletown has been knocked down.

The large brick tower that stood behind the former Studio Theater has been leveled by Vicker’s Demolition, opening a view of the sky from Central Avenue.

Today, crews continued cleaning up the demolition site with two large bulldozers that were moving chunks of concrete.

Last month, Bob Ryder, owner of Vicker’s Demolition, said the demolition would be complete within one month. He called the work “slow but steady” because of safety precautions that had to be taken for the two buildings on each side of the theater.

The company started demolishing the theater, vacant since 1988, in May.
