Franklin police to step up traffic, impaired enforcement with grants

Franklin police has received a pair of traffic enforcement grants that will begin in the new fiscal year starting Oct. 1.

Police Chief Russell Whitman said the purpose of these one-year grants is to aggressively enforce selected traffic offenses in the city of Franklin.

The first traffic enforcement grant is a part of Ohio’s Impaired Driving Enforcement Program. The grant will reimburse up to $29,937 toward targeted patrols in its effort to reduce traffic-related injuries and fatalities that are a result of intoxicated driving.

The second traffic enforcement grant is a part of Ohio’s Selected Traffic Enforcement Program in which Franklin will be reimbursed up to $21,485 to use towards targeted patrols in our effort to reduce traffic-related injuries and fatalities that are a result of speeding, driving under suspension, distracted driving with an emphasis on seat belt usage.

The grants expire Sept. 30, 2019.
