The officer suspected the motorcyclists of being members of a known outlaw motorcycle club due to insignia displayed, according to Robinson.
Three motorcycles fled the traffic stop traveling north on Neilan Boulevard, according to police. The officer decided not to pursue the fleeing motorcycles, but called in their description to dispatchers and other officers in the area.
Another officer then saw one of the motorcycles crash into an embankment as it traveled northbound on South Monument at a high rate of speed, according to Robinson.
Officers arrived on scene of the crash and found one of the motorcyclists severely injured. An officer began administering lifesaving measures until medics arrived. The man, however, died at the scene, police said.
