Changes underway for Middletown movie theater include more showtimes

The former Danbarry Cinemas Middletown is under new ownership with plans to upgrade portions of the business.

Republic Theatres officially took possession of the movie theater at 3479 Dixie Highway in Middletown on Nov. 2.

The movie theater chain features nine locations — five in Ohio, three in Kentucky and one in Indiana.

“We see an opportunity that we don’t understand why this location doesn’t have better business than what it does,” said Jim Dillon, assistant director of operations.

New ownership means showtimes during the hours of 1, 4 and 7 p.m. Sunday through Thursday at Republic Theatres Cinema 10, plus those times and an extra show during the 9 or 10 p.m hours Friday through Sunday.

“They (Danbarry) didn’t have the 1 o’clocks, but we offer the 1 o’clocks, that way if seniors want to get out with the kids, they’ve got free run of the show, really,” Dillon said.

Admission is $6 for children 11 and younger and $8 for adults — slightly less expensive than Danbarry, Dillon said.

Discounts of $5 admission for all shows on Tuesday and $5 on Thursday for seniors 60 and older will remain.

Concessions, especially combination deals, also are less expensive under new ownership, and beverage purchases include unlimited refills, he said.

A Pepsi self-serve station will be installed Monday, Dillon said.

Also in the works is new signage and landscape, plus the installation of new speakers and new carpet, he said.

“There’s been a lot of neglect in that building,” Dillon said.
