Some Reds fans may remember a pitch adjacent to Leandre’s in the bad pitch Hall of Fame. On Opening Day 2007, former Cincinnati mayor Mark Mallory threw a pitch to the first base side of home plate, about 30 feet from the catcher.
The pitch hit umpire Sam Holbrook, who promptly ejected Mallory.
It’s debatable which throw was more inept. But in the world of memorable first pitches, Leandre and Mallory stand near the top.
