“It was his decision to step down,” Silverman said. “We appreciate greatly all that he’s done for us. Bill Leach is a great man, and our kids are better for having been coached by him. Now we’re just moving forward.”
The Hornets were 1-9 this fall. Their lone victory came over Division V state semifinalist Madison in Week 2.
Monroe had two winning seasons under Leach, going 7-4 in 2014 and 6-4 in 2015, and lost to Clinton-Massie 49-7 in the Division IV playoffs in ’14.
Leach was also the head coach at Princeton for five years, posting a 24-27 record from 2006-10.
Silverman said the position will be posted inside and outside the district. Interested individuals should contact him at esilverman@monroelocalschools.com.
He said there is no timetable for naming a new coach.
“We’re going to leave it open until we feel like we’ve got the right person for the position,” Silverman said.
