Ron Dzikowski, commander of the West Chester VFW Post 7696, has been named the Veteran of the Year by the Butler County Veterans Service Commission.

Dzikowski was nominated by his post and endorsed by two members of the post who serve on the veterans board, President Chuck Weber and Commissioner Dave Smith.

Weber said the commander has almost single-handedly revived the post, tripling active membership to about 30.

“What’s significant about that post is it was a gathering of ancients…, ” Weber said, also describing how Dzikowski got the membership a permanent home to meet in. “The active membership is now in the 30s where it was under 10.”

The post has also received recognition from the national VFW for outstanding performance. Dzikowski will be honored at the annual Veterans Day observance event hosted by the board.
