This past Wednesday, nearly 70 people helped to support Thrive Student Ministries at St. Clair Avenue Baptist Church by answering questions like, “Name a Shakespeare tragedy and a board game.” (The answer is Othello)
“It’s a fun evening,” said John Brunner, Fairfield Rotarian and one of the emcees of the monthly trivia night. “Rotary likes to give back to the community. We try to work with the youth.”
On Wednesday, the Rotary helped raise funds for Thrive Student Ministries’ mission trip this summer, said youth pastor Andy Conn. It was the first official fundraiser for that mission trip to Deweyville, Texas, a small town on the Louisiana border and northwest of Beaumont, Texas. Conn said a group of 10 adults and teenagers will be helping a church for a week-long trip that sustained flood damage.
“It shows what a giving organization, what a giving people they are,” said Conn.

Travis Riley, vice president of East Hamilton-Fairfield Little League, recently benefited from the event.
“The money didn’t matter as much as the fact we knew we had the city behind us,” Riley said.
In addition to Thrive and the East Hamilton-Fairfield Little League, other beneficiaries include Big Brothers/Big Sisters and the Fairfield Community Foundation.
“This is just another way of giving back to groups that are making a difference in the community,” said Brunner. “When you’re an organization, every bit helps.”
Trivia starts at 6 p.m. every third Wednesday of the month at Richard's Pizza, 495 Nilles Road in Fairfield. Any local charity or community organization wishing to be a beneficiary of the Fairfield Rotary's trivia night can contact Brunner at 513-348-3020.
