A retired Montgomery County judge has been appointed to hear cases of Butler County Common Pleas Judge Craig Hedric, who died early Sunday.

Retired Montgomery County Appeals Court Judge James A. Brogan was appointed by the Ohio Supreme Court at the request of the Butler County judges.

Brogan also served as a visiting judge earlier this year when Butler County Common Pleas Judge Patricia Oney retired before finishing her term.

Brogan will serve as visiting judge until Gov. John Kasich appoints someone to serve out Hedric’s term that ends in 2018, according to Wayne Gilkison, court administrator.

Hedric, 55, of Liberty Twp., collapsed at his home early Sunday morning. He was found by his wife, Annette. Deputies and emergency workers performed CPR but were unable to revive him. Hedric was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

The Butler County Coroner’s Office ruled Hedric’s death as natural. He died of cardiovascular disease, according to the coroner’s report.

Hedric's funeral is Friday. Visitation will take place from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Talawanda High school. A memorial service will be held beginning at 7:30 pm at the Talawanda Performing Arts Auditorium.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made in the name of Craig and Annette Hedric to: The Mellen Center at the Cleveland Clinic, 1950 E 89th St, Cleveland, OH 44106; or the ALS Association of Central and Southern Ohio Chapter, 1170 Old Henderson Road, #221, Columbus, OH 43220.
