PHOTOS: Adorable Fiona photos from the Cincinnati zoo
“One of her most striking features of course are her ears, which are of course adorable,” Wendy Rice, head keeper for the Africa section, said. “They are kind of that fluted shape, and it instantly reminded us of Shrek and Princess Fiona. If you check out a hippo’s ears they really do look like Shrek ears or ogre ears, so Fiona is sort of named after an ogre.”
In episode three, broadcast earlier this week, her keepers also talked about how they cared for their baby neary nonstop for “months and months and months.”
Fiona was the first Nile hippo born at the Cincinnati Zoo in 75 years. She was born Jan. 24 and weighed just 29 pounds. The normal birth weight for the species is 55-120 pounds.
The hippo has since become a darling for southwest Ohio and the rest of the country.

Fiona’s daddy Henry has not been feeling well lately, so the hippo family hasn’t been able to be together. The zoo is reporting that Henry is on the mend and was reunited with Fiona and Bibi on Friday.
