Officer-involved shooting in Butler County: 3 new details today

A Butler County sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a man after being dispatched on a report of an active shooter on Jackson Road at 5:23 p.m. Tuesday night.

Here’s 3 new details the Journal-News has learned this morning:

1. Butler County prosecutor will review shooting

Last night’s officer-involved shooting will be presented to a grand jury for consideration, Prosecutor Michael Gmoser told this news outlet today.

This has been Gmoser’s policy with all officer-involved shootings since he took office.

2. Last fatal shooting involving sheriff’s office was in 2004

The last time a Butler County sheriff’s deputy was involved in a fatal shooting was October 2004.

A standoff Oct. 18, 2004, in Oxford ended when a sheriff’s deputy shot and killed 35-year-old Shane Griffen, according to Journal-News archives.

3. Man fatally shot by Butler County deputy was war veteran

Jacob Faulkner was the man fatally shot Tuesday by a Butler County sheriff’s deputy, according to his family.

Jacob’s brother, Jason Faulkner, told this news outlet he does not blame officers for his brother’s death.

Jason Faulkner said Jacob, a New Miami graduate, served in the Marines in Afghanistan. He had been back in the U.S. for about six years.
