3 new details: Teen charged with murder in father’s death

A 14-year-old girl is behind bars after shooting her father, 71-year-old James Ponder, to death early Thursday morning, according to the Hamilton Police Department.

The teen is charged with aggravated murder for allegedly shooting her father in their Millville Avenue home.

Here are 3 new details this morning in the case:

1. Court appearance today. The 14-year-old is scheduled to appear today in court. She is being held at the Butler County Juvenile Detention Center.

2. Police: Teen acted 'with purpose.' According to police documents obtained by this news outlet, "the defendant with purpose retrieved a firearm, loaded the firearm and shot the victim, her father, in the head with an attempt to kill him."

3. Police have been called to the home before. Police told this news outlet that they have previously responded to the home for a report of theft and a report of two suspicious people in the area. When asked if police had been called to the home for any previous domestic issues, Hamilton police Sgt. Brian Robinson said, "Nothing we found."
