A Butler County sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a man, who family members identified as Jacob Faulkner, after being dispatched on a report of an active shooter on Jackson Road at 5:23 p.m. Tuesday night.
“I don’t know why (Jake) did what he did,” Edward Paragin, a neighbor, said.
Paragin said he believes Jacob, who served with the Marines in Afghanistan, suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
“(The military) treats them for physical wounds,” he said, but added the military doesn’t do enough to treat PTSD.
“The police department should take into consideration things like (PTSD),” he said.
While Paragin said he understands police have to neutralize a threat, he remains shaken by last night’s incident.
“If somebody has a gun in their hand, (police) are trained to shoot to kill. But when it happens so close to you, it’s a bad situation,” he said.
