INITIAL REPORT, July 5:
A Middletown police officer fell tonight in the parking lot of the police station and injured his head in a “fluke” accident, police said.
Middletown paramedics worked on the officer for several minutes until he was taken in a medic unit from the lot to Smith Park, where he was flown to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Middletown Division of Police Chief Rodney Muterspaw said.
The chief said he didn’t know how the officer fell nor the extent of his injuries. He then left for the hospital. Muterspaw said he wouldn’t release the officer’s name until his family was notified.
Muterspaw was attending tonight’s the City Council meeting when a Middletown officer told him about the incident. Muterspaw and Lt. Scott Reeve quickly left the meeting.
Then they were joined by City Manager Doug Adkins.
