Middletown man Tased after chase

A Middletown man was Tased on Thursday night after officers responded to a disturbance on Burbank Avenue.

Middletown Police Officer Luke Agee was dispatched to the 2800 block of Burbank at midnight on a report of a woman yelling at a man in an apartment.

The officer saw the man — later identified as Johnny Bryant — near the apartment in question.

When Agee exited his cruiser, Bryant ducked behind the building, according to the police report.

After being asked to stop by Agee, Bryant began running.

“I gave chase where I caught up with the subject in front of (the apartment). This subject then tried to enter the apartment, however the door was locked. I wrapped my arms around the subject to try to control him. He was able to slip free dropping his backpack,” Agee said.

The apartment door then popped open and the man fell inside. Agee said he warned the man he was going to use his Taser if he did not stop. When the man ran to the back of the apartment, Agee said he deployed the Taser, hitting the man in the back.

Bryant said he was intoxicated and was worried about getting in trouble because he had a scale on him and some cocaine in his wallet, according to the police report.

Bryant, 27, is charged with obstructing official business. He is free on bond.
