“This is a big win for Middletown as Josh Bunch is a career criminal with 57 arrests in Middletown and additional arrests in Monroe and Lebanon,” Middletown Police said via social media.
Bunch has previous arrests for breaking and entering, drug abuse, receiving stolen property, forgery and assault, according to Middletown Municipal Court records.
In October 2016, Bunch attempted to break into a home on Yale Drive in Middletown, police said.
The home’s 95-year-old female resident was awakened by a noise coming from the kitchen. When she got out of bed and saw an arm reaching into one of the home’s windows, she grabbed a gun and beat the arm with the butt of the gun, police said.
The woman was not able to identify the burglar, but officers collected DNA evidence at the scene that was a match to Bunch.
Just days before his trial, Bunch pleaded guilty and was sentenced Friday by Butler County Common Pleas Judge Greg Howard.
