Today’s rainy weather won’t keep MetroParks of Butler County from a groundbreaking ceremony for a $3.1 million project at Voice of America Park in West Chester Twp.

Groundbreaking for the UC Health West Chester Hospital Fieldhouse will be held at 4 p.m. today, rain or shine, according to MetroParks officials.

The fieldhouse addition will help VOA MetroPark to attract top tier sports tournaments, which are an economic driver for the local and regional economy, said Kelly Barkley, MetroParks senior manager of community relations.

When the fieldhouse is completed, it will feature a concession area, restrooms, a trainer’s room and press box just to the west of the nine fields within the VOA Athletic Complex.

The fieldhouse is a collaborative effort between MetroParks of Butler County, sponsorship with UC Health West Chester Hospital, and the state of Ohio through a state capital improvement grant, according to Barkley.

During the past two years, special events held at Voice of America MetroPark have generated more than $12 million dollars of incremental revenue to the area, according to the Butler County Visitors Bureau.
