Man involved in fight outside Oxford bar remains in hospital

Shortly after three people were kicked out of an Oxford bar for their “intoxicated behavior,” a fight happened among them and a bar employee, Oxford police said Monday.

One of those involved in the fight, a man from Chicago, was transported by medical helicopter to University of Cincinnati Medical Center. On Sunday, Oxford Police Chief John Jones said the man was in the intensive care unit.

On Monday, Oxford police refused to release the names of anyone involved in the incident, saying the investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed. The names on the police report obtained by this new agency were redacted by the police department’s records division.

The names will not be released until the report has been reviewed by the city’s law director, police said.

The report said the charges filed may include assault and disorderly conduct.

Oxford police were dispatched about 10:20 p.m. Saturday to The Wood’s, 17 N. Poplar St., on a report of an altercation outside. One person was found to be unresponsive, according to police. That man was not a Miami University student, police said.

Detectives are still investigating the incident and reviewing surveillance tape, said Sgt. Jon Varley of the Oxford police department.

He said the other two people involved in the altercation, a man and a woman, were not injured. Everyone involved was of legal age to consume alcohol, police said.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information is asked to call Detective Matt Blauvelt at 513-524-5240.
