5 things to know about Middletown’s newest judge

James Sherron was sworn in as Middletown Municipal Court judge on Monday night at Miami University Middletown.

Here are five things to know about Sherron:

1. Lifetime resident. He has spent his life in the area. He graduated from Middletown High School in 1978, then from the University of Dayton School of Law in 1986. He has worked extensively in Butler County.

2. Only 9th judge. He became the ninth Middletown Municipal Court judge. Here are the others: Harrison Dell, 1914-17; William Todhunter, 1918-26; Edward Dell, 1926-45; Alton Combs, 1946-53; John Lamb, 1954-83; James Combs, 1984-94; Mark Wall, 1995-2017; Melynda Cook Howard 2017; James Sherron, 2017.

3. Contentious battle. Sherron won a contentious three-way race in November that included Judge Melynda Cook Howard and Elizabeth Yauch to complete the final two years of the late Judge Mark Wall's term. He began hearing cases Tuesday morning in Middletown.

4. Family. Sherron and his wife, Melanie, have three grown children — Nick, Luke and Alli Sherron Huff.

5. Family connection. His uncle was the late Everett Sherron, who spent more than 75 years in Scouting.
