The theme of the German Village Association’s next pub-crawl fundraiser is Margaritas.

“It’s a fundraiser for the German Village Association, for things like our Christmas Walk, which is free,” said Debby Ripperger, past president of the neighborhood association. “Even Santa Claus costs money anymore, so we had to make some extra money somewhere.”

The pub-crawl fundraisers began in 2008, and there have been one or two per year since then. This particular one, Margarita Crawl, will happen Saturday, May 20, from 6 to 11 p.m.

Past events have drawn several hundred party-goers, according to Ripperger.

“It’s a fun time,” she said. “It was bringing people downtown before we had any type of new things going on, eight years ago. And it’s just a really good time.”

A bus service called Party Buzz will provide transportation between venues from 7 to 11 p.m.

“And then you have to find your own way home,” said Ripperger, who noted some people choose to stay at the Courtyard by Marriott.

The $10 wristbands purchased by participants include discounted beverages and small-bite foods. People can get the wristbands at any of the participating locations, and can start at whichever bar they’d like.

Aside from raising money, “It just brings more people in to the various pubs, to help their business,” Ripperger said. “A lot of people get in groups and dress up,” particularly for Halloween events or when the theme is a former Hamilton nickname, “Little Chicago,” with people dressing as gangsters, flappers and gun molls.

“It’s just an adult party,” she said.

Participating establishments are North Second Tap and Bottle Shop; Municipal Brew Works; J Austin’s Riverbank Cafe; Courtyard by Marriott; The Drink Tavern; Neal’s Famous BBQ (which just got its liquor license and can only serve beer); and 1791 Bistro, which is in the former Ryan’s Tavern location.
