Butler County United Way to fund $750,000 in projects

The Butler County United Way’s funding decisions for the 2017-2018 funding cycle will see nearly $750,000 invested into local communities.

During the next year, Butler County United Way will provide funding for 31 programs that will support one of the three major focuses of education, financial stability and healthy lives.

This year, Butler County United Way will allocate over $318,000 to 10 education programs that serve children as well as adults. Funded programs include:

  • After school/summer youth programming at Boys & Girls Club of Hamilton
  • Afterschool program at Axis Teen Center, EDGE Center
  • Back pack program by Shared Harvest Foodbank
  • Building success with Hamilton Living Water Ministry
  • CASA advocacy: A voice for abused children from PARACHUTE: Butler County CASA
  • Leadership experience for Girl Scouts of Western Ohio
  • One-to-one mentoring for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Butler County
  • Play and learn groups from 4C for Children
  • Project Learn at Boys & Girls Club of West Chester/Liberty
  • School-based support services from LifeSpan Inc.

In the financial stability/basic needs category, Butler County United Way was able to fund 11 programs with $185,000 in contributions.

Programs receiving funding are:

  • Build-Up Academy at Supports to Encourage Low-income Families (S.E.L.F.)
  • Dove House by YWCA of Hamilton
  • Emergency home repair program from People Working Cooperatively
  • Emergency shelter at Hope House Rescue Mission Inc.
  • Foodbanking/SNAP outreach from Shared Harvest Foodbank
  • Goodman Place by YWCA of Hamilton
  • Individual Development Account Program (IDA) through S.E.L.F.
  • JOBS NOW! program through S.E.L.F.
  • Neighborhood Service Center at Hamilton Living Water Ministry, Inc.
  • Neighbors Who Care: Home repair/group workcamps through S.E.L.F.
  • The Butler County Financial Stability Program by Lifespan, Inc.

An additional $145,500 was awarded to nine programs focusing on healthy lives.

These programs included:

  • Butler County rape crisis services from Women Helping Women
  • Girls Inc. at YWCA of Hamilton
  • Independent living assistance from Wesley Community Services
  • Perinatal Services at Sojourner Recovery Services
  • Project Success at Envision Partnerships
  • Special Olympics by Butler County Special Olympics
  • Treehouse Children's Services from Cancer Family Care
  • Vision rehabilitation services from Cincinnati Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired
  • Youth and family mediation with Envision Partnerships

A number of special collaborations were awarded over $100,000 in funding for the programs that they offer, including:

  • Booker T. Washington Community Center Collaborative received $35,000 in funding through the lead agency, Great Miami Valley YMCA
  • Home Visitation Collaborative received $30,000 in funding through the lead agency, Every Child Succeeds
  • Parent Project Collaborative received $35,964 in funding through the lead agency, Catholic Charities of SW Ohio
