A Hamilton man has admitted guilt in the fatal shooting of a Trotwood man in March.

Kinney was shot on his 24th birthday at the end of Chestnut Street and west Front Street.

911 CALL: Crowds, guns, pot describe scene of fatal Hamilton shooting

Hunter was taken into custody in Atlanta a few weeks after the shooting. His trial was scheduled to begin next week.

Evidence indicated Kinney and another person had been involved in shots fired at Hunter before the March 23 incident, according to prosecutors.

Additionally, there was evidence that Kinney and the other person were approaching Hunter, who was in a car, when the shooting occurred.

Hunter pleaded guilty to firing the shots that killed Kinney. He was originally charged with murder, but the charge was amended to involuntary manslaughter. He faces a maximum of 16 years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 26.

Kinney’s mother attended the hearing, but declined comment until after sentencing.

Several people called 911 the night of a fatal shooting, including residents who said a large crowd had gathered just before shots rang out and a white Toyota sped away from the scene.

One caller reported hearing four shots and seeing several men loitering in the cul-de-sac.

“Somebody got shot, they are putting him in a car,” a woman screamed while on the 911 call.
