Hamilton company finds niche designing beer labels

A Cincinnati brewery’s newest beer has a Hamilton touch.

Listermann Brewing Company has created a black IPA in honor of Kendi, the Cincinnati Zoo’s newest rhino baby.

The brewery said it decided to make the beer after selling out its Fiona-inspired IPA in May.

And both labels were created in Hamilton by Thommy Long of LemonGrenade, a creative development company located in the city.

LemonGrenade’s creative minds create everything from logos to advertising campaigns to sales materials.

But beer labels have become somewhat of a specialty for the agency.

“We are the agency on record for Listermann, so we have done over 200 labels for them,” Long said.

There are several other breweries also taking advantage of LemonGrenade’s talent.

“We work with 10 different breweries right now,” Long said.

The secret to developing a good looking label?

“Well, the good thing about Listermann is that they give us 100 percent creative freedom,” Long said. “They will come to us with a really weird wacky beer name and say ‘just do what you guys do.’ So it is almost like an artist’s dream to have a client say ‘have fun with it.’”
