The redevelopment of the former Americana Amusement Park will begin this year, Monroe city officials said.

Part of the plan includes using a section of the property to extend the Great Miami bike trail.

Previously, officials also discussed turning the 35-acre site into a public park and redeveloping the adjacent commercial properties to enhance the area, which serves as a gateway to the area from Ohio 63 and Ohio 4.

New bike trails and sidewalks will be created throughout the city this year to make it more walkable and connected, officials said.

“We’ll start identifying areas where we can put those paths in or those sidewalks in to make our community more connectable,” Monroe City Manager Bill Brock said. “A lot of our subdivisions have sidewalks. How do we connect them together and then to the downtown area or the Americana area or to the entertainment district area?”
