FIRST REPORT: Ex-Monroe cop arrested on intoxication, weapons charges
Susan Sparks told police that her husband — a former Monroe police officer — was intoxicated and went outside their home in the 300 block of Yankee Road naked with a gun.
She said he fired one round from the gun toward Yankee Road before coming back inside and saying, “I didn’t have the balls to do it,” according to the police report.

When police arrived at the home, his wife said he was in the shower and she believed he still had his handgun, according to the report.
Police called out to Sparks, 60, and about five minutes later, he came out of the bathroom naked and sat on the bed.
Officers arrested and handcuffed Sparks and placed him in a cruiser.
Police also found a Smith & Wesson revolver in the bathroom with one spent casing inside the cylinder.
Bryce Shepard, who lives across the street, told police that he was asleep when he heard a gunshot.
When he looked out the window, he saw Sparks walking in the yard naked with a silver revolver, according to the report.
Police said they could smell alcohol coming from Sparks and that his “eyes were also glossy and he was unsteady on his feet.”
Sparks was not issued a retirement badge in February because policy requires the officer “to leave under good circumstances,” according to Monroe Police Chief Bob Buchanan.
