CRIME NEWS: Arrest made at high school for Walmart shooting in Fairfield Twp.
Like in Tuesday’s thefts, most from vehicles involve items left in plain sight, and it can be very quick when doors are unlocked. In the Woodside Drive case, the thieves were in and out just after one minute but came back for a second round of thefts.
“This perfectly demonstrates the reason why we push to lock your doors,” said Fairfield Police Chief Mike Dickey. “Most thieves don’t want to break glass because they don’t want to make noise.”
Shoplifting is the biggest crime committed in Fairfield, but theft from vehicles is right behind it. There were around 200 thefts from vehicles in 2017, Dickey said.
“We can knock out a lot of thefts, and a lot of heartache, if people would lock their car doors,” he said.
The police suggest not leaving valuables in a vehicle, especially in plain view. They also encourage completely closure of windows and removal of detachable stereos and face plates.
The most common items stolen from vehicles include:
- GPS devices
- laptop and electronic devices
- music discs
- purses
- tools
