Recent Hamilton grad killed in crash

Speed may be factor in crash that leaves 1 dead, 2 injured.

UPDATE @ 4 p.m.:

A recent Hamilton High School graduate is dead following a Sunday night crash that injured a classmate and another teen.

Daniel Accorinti, 18, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash about 7:30 p.m. on Hamilton-Scipio Road near Chapel Road in Reily Twp., according to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.

A 2010 Chevrolet Camaro driven by Travis Owens, 18, of Hamilton, was traveling on Hamilton-Scipio Road, when Owens lost control of the vehicle and went off the road.

The vehicle flipped several times before coming to rest in a field.

Owens and Accorinti are 2016 graduates of Hamilton High School.

“A very sorrowful day for our building & community. Please keep the Accorinti family in your thoughts & prayers. Be supportive. Stay positive,” John Wilhelm, HHS principal, tweeted Monday morning.

One passenger, a female juvenile, was transported to Fort Hamilton Hospital with serious injuries. The sheriff’s office has not released the name of the juvenile.

“Danny was in our automotive program. He spent part of the time here with his studies but also worked in a work study program with a local company,” Wilhelm said. “Next year he was scheduled to go onto automotive school at Lincoln Tech in Indianapolis.”

The principal added, “Danny was a nice young man to know. He was a very honest, hard-working … he liked to bowl and was very funny too.”

Jimmy Wyrick had been friends with Accorinti for years, along with Owens. He too is a HHS 2016 graduate.

Wyrick said the trio like to hunt, fish and shoot.

“Danny was a really great guy, would help anyone,” Wyrick said. He added that Accorinti often went camping with his family and was already working as a diesel mechanic.

“He was a really good mechanic,” Wyrick said.

Owens was flown to University of Cincinnati Hospital Medical Center with serious injuries. According to deputies, Owens was conscious and answering questions when he was being air lifted from the scene.

A preliminary investigation indicates that speed could be a factor, but texting and driving is not considered a factor at this point, according to the sheriff’s office.

The speed limit on Hamilton-Scipio Road is 55 mph.
