Middletown police searching for man who stole UDF coffee

Middletown police are searching for a man who got upset this morning because he wasn’t allowed to purchase alcohol and he stole a cup of coffee from United Dairy Farmers.

The manager told police a man later identified as James Proffitt Jr.,of Franklin, came into UDF, 101 N. Verity Parkway, before 5:30 a.m. and tried to buy a cup of coffee and alcohol.

When the manager told the man the store wasn’t allowed to sell alcohol between 1 a.m. to 5:30 a.m., he allegedly became irate and “started a disturbance,” according to the police report.

He later returned to the store, grabbed a 24-ounce cup of coffee, refilled it and left the store. He got into a vehicle and left, police said.

Police identified the subject from the store’s surveillance cameras, the report said. Police signed a petty theft warrant on Proffitt.
