Middletown police: Goodwill cashier says she took $5,000

A cashier at the Middletown Goodwill store told an employee she stole about $5,000 from the register this year, according to police reports.

The woman told the loss prevention manager she stole the money while dealing with customers.

The manager told police he reviewed video from three days and noticed the cashier would zero out transactions and then either take money at the time of the transaction, conduct a donation transaction and take the money, or leave the drawer open at the end of the transaction and take the money out.

So far, the manager told police, he has viewed tapes that show the cashier stealing more than $300, the report said.

The suspect will be charged once detectives have viewed all the tapes, according to the report.
