Bond was set Wednesday at $15,000 for Fairfield High School teacher Tyler M. Conrad, who is facing criminal charges for alleged sexual activity with a student.

Conrad, 26, of Victor Court in Hamilton, turned himself into deputies in Butler County Common Pleas Court minutes before his arraignment in Judge Keith Spaeth’s courtroom.

He was indicted by a grand jury Tuesday on two counts of sexual battery, a third-degree felony; sexual imposition, a third-degree misdemeanor; and contributing to the unruliness or delinquency of a minor, a first-degree misdemeanor.

The investigation began when Fairfield police were contacted by Butler County Children Services about possible illegal activity between a Fairfield High School teacher and student. Police opened an investigation, advised school administrators of the allegations.

The alleged activity happened between Conrad and a 16-year-old female student between Aug. 16 and Oct. 9, according to the indictment.

Defense attorney Matthew Davidson said Conrad, who entered a not guilty plea, is a Badin High School graduate and attended the University of Cincinnati. He has no criminal history, Davidson told the judge when requesting that his client be released on his own recognizance.

After hearing the charges, Spaeth set bond at $15,000.

“Stay away from this young lady, stay away from the school,” Spaeth told Conrad.

A pretrial hearing has been set for Dec.14. Davidson declined comment after the arraignment. Conrad was taken to the Butler County Jail to be booked and await posting of bond.

Conrad was hired by Fairfield schools on Aug. 6, 2015. He was an assistant football coach from August 2015 until this year, according to school officials.

Conrad was placed on administrative leave by the district on Oct. 13, according to school officials.

“Our district was made aware of the allegations and criminal investigation by the Fairfield Police Department, and the district cooperated fully with the Fairfield Police Department,” Superintendent Billy Smith said. “Once the district was made aware of the allegations and criminal investigation, the teacher was immediately placed on administrative leave. He will stay on administrative leave pending board consideration of the matter on Nov. 30.”
