Alleged Percocet robber wants out of jail for health reasons

The attorney for a Middletown woman charged with the robbery of a CVS pharmacy in January is requesting she be released from jail due to a high-risk pregnancy.

Bethany Scott, 26, of the 200 block of Woodlawn Avenue, has been indicted by a Butler County grand jury for robbery, aggravated possession of drugs and theft of drugs, all felonies, in connection with the robbery of the pharmacy at 820 S. Breiel Blvd. on Jan. 30.

Scott’s bond was set at $200,000 during a preliminary hearing in Middletown Municipal Court. Defense attorney Kathleen Batliner has filed a motion requesting Scott be released on her own recognizance, noting she could live with her grandparents in Franklin.

“Defendant had severe preeclampsia with her previous two pregnancies so she is at risk for this medical issue with her current pregnancy. Defendant requires several prenatal checkups to ensure the safety and health of her and her baby because of this condition,” Batliner said.

She added that Scott has only had two prenatal checkups since her arrest.

“Because defendant is not receiving the necessary medical checkups, the health of her and her baby are at stake,” Batliner said in the motion.

A hearing has been scheduled for Thursday before Butler County Common Pleas Judge Jennifer McElfresh to consider bond reduction and to arraign Scott on the indictment.

Scott was arrested a day after the robbery when a search of her residence turned up 1,600 Percocet pills under her bed, according to police.

At the time, pharmacy employees told detectives they believed the masked woman who robbed the store was the same woman who entered the store a few days prior and was asked to remove a mask, exposing her face. That woman was identified as Scott, police said.

Also found at Scott’s residence was a black pellet gun that looked like a real gun, a detective said in February during a hearing in Middletown Municipal Court. Police say Scott confessed to the robbery.
