Hamilton fatal crash: 1 dead after SUV catches fire

UPDATE @ 4:20 p.m.:

A woman has died after an accident this afternoon in Hamilton.

A concrete bucket truck driving westbound on Ohio 129 (High St) at Fair Avenue rear-ended a Jeep Liberty at about 2 p.m., according to Hamilton police.

The Jeep Liberty had one occupant, a female driver, Sgt. Brian Robinson told this news outlet.

The vehicle caught fire and bystanders attempted to help the woman get out of the SUV, but it was engulfed in flames and they were not successful in their efforts, Robinson said.

“Currently, this tragic incident is under investigation,” he said.

Shift Commander David Holzberger of the Hamilton Fire Department said the roadway was still backed up and the coroner had arrived on the scene to remove the body.

“We are still working out here on the scene to get things cleared up and it will probably take another hour or so,” he said.

A car that caught fire at the intersection of Ohio 129 and Fair Avenue in Hamilton has traffic backed up this afternoon in both directions.

Emergency crews remain on the scene, and traffic is moving slowly through the area.

Police are urging drivers to use caution in the area.

The investigation into what caused the fire and number of vehicles involved is still ongoing.
