Black ice warning issued in Butler County

The Butler County Engineer’s Office is warning drivers that roads could get icy later today as temperatures drop and snow returns.

Snow plow drivers salted all 15 Butler County routes this morning and no incidents were reported, according to the Butler County Engineer’s Office, but the picture may be a little different later today.

“With the temperatures falling as they are predicted to do all day, you could see some black ice developing as some of the wet pavement freezes up,” said Chris Petrocy, a spokesman for the Butler County Engineer’s Office. “Motorists may want to watch out for black ice. The pavement may look wet, but as the temperature drop it may be frozen.”

Butler County had about 13,000 tons of salt on hand and used 330 tons of it on Saturday, he said.
