Dayton church moves to Trotwood
Tuesday, July 22, 2008
Ethan Temple Seventh-Day Adventist Church is on the move. The church, which has been at 4519 Oakridge Drive in Dayton's Residence Park neighborhood, is relocating in Trotwood and will officially open Friday, July 25. The new $1.5 million building stands at 4000 Shiloh Springs Road.
"About 20 years ago we bought land in Trotwood," said Don Black, Ethan Temple member and publisher of the Dayton Weekly News. "When we decided to expand to a new facility, the Trotwood location was the logical place to go. With this move we're not abandoning the inner city. Our pantry will remain at the old building until it's either sold or taken over by another congregation."
Black said the new facility was built by the Bruns Construction Company and will hold a two-day opening observance on Friday, July 25, at 7 p.m. and all-day Saturday, July 26. Former church members and pastors, Trotwood city officials, church conference officials and guests from around the country are expected to attend.
"This is the third home for the Ethan Temple Church family," Black said. "In the 1930s, '40s and '50s the church was located at the corner of William St. and Home Ave. In 1963 it moved to its present location at 4519 Oakridge Drive."
The public is invited to attend the two-day inaugural ceremony. The official ribbon cutting will take place at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, followed by worship service at 11 a.m. and a dedication at 6 p.m. For more information call the church at 268-5700.
