“The timing for this shop is right, the location is perfect and the layout is spot on,” Jones said.
Her works have been to the White House, graced Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants and appeared in music videos — including one of Justin Bieber’s — and on the red carpet of numerous Hollywood events, she said.
SilverWing Sewing & Alterations, which gets its name from Jones’ Native American moniker, offers master level creation and alterations on any type of clothing, and specializes in wedding alterations, restyling, custom bridal veils.
Native American regalia also is offered in both cloth and leather, said Jones, whose works have been shipped worldwide.
“I am the only master seamstress in the Tri-State area and have won awards for my works,” she said. “I go above and beyond in the precision, perfection of the garments I make and alter.”
Jones said qualifying as a master seamstress means you have sewn longer than 40 years and taken many tests to prove your abilities.
“You are able to create, work with, make any type of clothing, garment, costume,” she said. “You must be able to drape fabric, create a pattern from measurements, create a body double. My love and passion for sewing is evident in each item I make as I put my heart and soul into each one.”
Jones hired two part-time employees for the store, which has a main showroom that features her works and photos, plus a Victorian fitting room, sewing, cutting and storage rooms.
Sharon Fearon said she’s known Jones since 2010 and watched her grow into a talented, capable and fine seamstress.
“I’ve seen her work and it’s amazing and beautiful,” Fearon said. “(She) puts her heart into every piece. You won’t just wear a stunning garment but the love that went into it.”
Kathleen Lester said Jones puts great love and care into the work she does, “and it shows.”
“She made us a lovely child’s skirt, an apron, and a few medicine bags,” Lester said. “Her work is excellent and consistent, and made to last.”
