Wright-Patt: Annual economic impact is $4.4 billion

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE — Base administrators say that Wright-Patterson has a total economic impact of at least $4.4 billion on a five-county area in the Miami Valley.
The report released on Thursday, June 5, includes Clark, Greene, Miami, Montgomery and Preble counties. It does not take into account some other nearby counties, including Warren.

Base officials said their calculation includes data for the federal fiscal year ended Sept. 30, 2007. It showed a total employment at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base of 24,817 people including military, civilian and contractor employees.
A year earlier, base officials reported Wright-Patt's regional economic impact of $3.3 billion, including payroll, payments to contractors, and indirect jobs off base that the Air Force attributes to the base's presence.
